At the Fair Bluff Senior Center, our mission is to enhance the lives of older adults, by giving them opportunities to continue to live a healthy and active life. We stride to recognize that the process of growing, learning and adapting continues throughout life and the need for meaningful relationships never ceases. We are committed to providing opportunities for self-realization, fulfillment and independence. We respectfully support the dignity and efforts of older people without regards to race, ethnicity, gender, religious or sexual preference.
We offer several programs, activities, and services provided in order to enhance the lives of older adults by allowing them to fight feelings of loneliness or isolation and find a sense of fulfillment and independence. Our center focuses on unique, innovating, fun, and customized activities suited to the specific individuals that walk through our doors. Our center always adapts & supports the needs from the individuals that are here in our small rural community.
The Fair Bluff Senior Center aims to be a community driven, 'open-arms', fellowship gathering place, and we look forward to having you or your loved one join us! Calendars are posted monthly, with upcoming events and 'need-to-know' information in our newsletter. The Fair Bluff Senior Center, which can be found attached to an old, abandoned school building in the small rural community of Fair Bluff. One of seven senior centers that are operated by the Columbus County Department of Aging, our center serves as the westernmost hub for older adults in Columbus County. The Fair Bluff Senior Center stands as a testament of resilience, innovation, and compassion in the field of aging. The center transformed what was once a place of no activity to a thriving, community-driven space. Bringing advocacy to the older adults in this community who are still rebuilding from the devastating floods of Hurricanes Matthew and Florence. Once known as "the forgotten center" in a flood-impacted town, the Fair Bluff Senior Center has undergone a complete transformation in just the a few years. Upon the arrival of the Senior Center's new Program Coordinator, nearly half of the registered participants had relocated after the floods or had passed away; a daily average of five seniors attending only two to three times a week. By the end of 2025, the center now celebrates 58 active particpants, with an average of 20 seniors attending daily. We have rebuilt not only our programs but also our seniors' confidence, connection, and sense of belonging. The center has reignited hope and engagement among local seniors- many of whom had been disconnected from their community for years. In a town of roughly 709 residents- 150 of whom are 60 or older- this growth is both statistically significant and deeply meaningful, representing a renewed trust between the center and its community, and proof of its remarkable comeback. We are committed to supporting the dignity, independence, and well-being of all older adults—without regard to race, ethnicity, gender, religion, or sexual preference. Through innovation, compassion, and a deep sense of community pride, the Fair Bluff Senior Center has redefined what it means to serve the aging population in a small town. What was once a quiet and nearly forgotten senior center in a flood-affected community, the Fair Bluff Senior Center is now recognized as a center of hope, creativity, inclusiveness, and resilience. Uplifting lives and redefining what it means to age with dignity and community in a small, rural southeastern North Carolina town.
